Blog 7: Independent Component Approval

Independent Component

1.  Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.
-For my independent component I plan to make binders as well as packets for my mentor to help her organize her files and important documents precisely.

2.  Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.
-I would have to put many documents by trucker number (the number of the employee it belongs to) as well as alphabetical number. Some even have to go in order by date and so on. This means lots of organization skills, hole punching, dividing and PATIENCE!

3.  And explain how what you will be doing will help you explore your topic in more depth.
-This will help me understand how important it is for HR managers to be organized and how much they have to keep track and document. This would also show me great skills that I will need for the future.

Blog 6: Second Interview Preparation

Interviews

1.  Who is your mentor and where do they work?
  •      My mentor is Janet Galganis and she's self employed but the place where I'm currently mentoring at is one of her customer's business, its called Rail Delivery Services and its located in the city of Fontana.
2.  What five questions will you ask them about their background?
  •      What made you go into the human resource world and what can you say is one one of the most difficult things about it?
  •       In what ways would you consider your career successful and future driven?
  •       Do you have any goals to further your career in the future or do you think maintaining your current position is enough?
  •     How would you say being a human resource manager has shaped you into the type of person you are today?
  •    Have you always been interested in human resources and what would you say is one of your most memorable experiences about it?

Blog 5: Mentorship and Research Reflection

Research

1. Mentorship question: Describe your experience in how you found your mentorship?
-I had to change mentors because my uncle was not working out so well. Fortunately, Ms. Wonders was willing to help me out and ask around school to see if anyone knew anybody that could help me out. Thankfully, Mr. Rivas had a friend that owns her own businesses and works on a field that interested me very much. I emailed her and explain to her what were my requirements and without hesitation she took me under her wing.

2. Research question: What has been your most important article you have read so far and why?
- The most important article I have read so far is, "The Next Agenda for Adding Value and Delivering Results," David Ulrich and because it talks about the challenges that human resource managers face as well as a clear outlook as to what you do in that field and what it is. It also talks about what to look forward to in the future and what their expectations are.

Blog 4: First Interview

Interview

1. Who do you plan to interview? Why?
  • I plan to interview my mentor's assistant, Maria, to have more of an outlook as to what Human Resource Management is really about and what it takes to manage everything my mentor and her do.
 2. You have to ask 5 questions. What additional questions do you plan to ask? Ask open-ended questions.
  • What made you pursue this career out of all the other careers out there?
  • What would you say is the most difficult aspect of human resource management?

Extra Post: December

New Mentor

This month I was forced to change my topic completely to Human Resource Management because I finally found a stable mentor that is of great help. Fortunately I had the honor to start mentoring with her this past Monday in one of her customers business called Rail Delivery Services in the city of Fontana, where she had me look at the way they do the employee pay roles as well as let me into one of the meetings that had to do with a case she's currently working on. I am way more relaxed about my senior project now that I have the help I need as well as looking forward to mentoring with her.

Extra Post: November

This book was very helpful for me because it gave  me a lot of insight as to how family coaches help out their clients and what it takes to be like them. It also gave me a lot of tips as to how to run/manage a successful business and the problems that business owners go through on a daily basis and the way to avoid/resolve them.

***This month I also started looking for a new mentor and although I got a few responses back I'm still in search of the right match that can help me take my senior project to the next level***

EQ

Research
1."I reviewed the rule of three for writing and EQ."

Essential Question

Once a topic is chosen, the student will develop a working essential question.  The purpose of the working essential question is to help the student build a strong foundation of research which will allow him or her to create an essential question that encourages depth and rigor in the chosen topic.  An essential question must:
  • Provide a framework for studies (It calls for breadth and depth of research, Is not a yes/no question)
  • Take a stance (It allows you to argue some point, Cannot be a recitation of facts or a list)
  •  Format (It is specific, The wording makes sense)

2. Review following EQ's:

a) What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
☑ Provides a framework for studies by allowing research to be able to be breadth/depth and no yes/no question
☑ Takes a stance by allowing the person to incorporate other methods of healthy weight loss and argue different points
☑ Format does make sense

b) What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?
☑ Provides a framework for studies by not being a yes or no question as well as allowing more depth/breadth to take place
☑ Takes a stance by letting the person have multiple answers and argue different points
☒ Format could be worded a little differently

c) What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?
☑ Provides a framework for studies by allowing more breadth/depth to take place and its not a yes or no question
☑ Takes a stance by allowing the researcher to get multiple answers to and argue different points
☑ Format does make sense

d) How can anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?
☑ Provides a framework of study by not being a yes or no question and allowing research to be more in breadth/depth
☑ Takes a stance by letting the person argue different points of study
☑ Format does make sense

3. What is the best coaching method in order for a  family business to be successful?
-How can a coach best help a family resolve their problems in order for their business to be successful?

*****Disclaimer: I am currently in the process of wanting to change my topic to Coaching in the Family Business because most of my research has been on that and it's something that's very much caught my eye. I have two potential places for mentorship in mind but I have yet to hear back from them as of right now.*****
